During Capcom's 2007 fiscal year results meeting, sales projection of a number of their games were revealed. For this game, Capcom is projecting 420k copies sold worldwide. Either Capcom is severely underestimating sales projection by around 80%, or this stock is quite overvalued.
This is the first decently reviewed shooter on the Wii, shooters were one of the Genres that really had people excited about the Wii's controls, it makes sense that this game would sell well despite already being out on previous systems.
So I just bought the game. Its a blast to play. Takes a little time to get used to the controls. But with in a few minutes had them pretty much down. Quick response to action will take a little more time getting used to just because this isn't normal as compared to other games. I felt very much like I was playing and arcade game. But this isn't on rails. Over all very fun. I haven't played Res. 4 very much in the past so it is a good time and can't beat the price. Interface seems good. One thing I have noticed about a lot of the gaming industry is that they complain a lot more about the Wii games then any other. Simply because it can't do everything they expect it to. But they forget that we are all having a learning curve with this including developers. One last note. It seems like the game was made for Wii. Forget the GC and PS2, Wii is the way to go.
I understand all of that, I was just pointing out a couple things about why it was given such a low rating compared to most other ratings it got.
They docked the game for the interface, the cost, and the lower res than the PC game, I personally believe it was unfair to dock it for the lower Res, and I can understand the other points, even if I might disagree with them, strongly.
It also annoys me that any game on the Wii seems to be auto docked between 1-2 points out of 10 because of poor interface, something that certain reviewers are always complaining about and that I don't find at all, then these very same reviews are thrown out anytime the game is compared to another console.
The reviewer is not looking at the game with an open mind and taking the time to learn how to game without pushing buttons, instead they are being lazy.
Reviews are just opinions. Yes, reviewers should aim to have a certain level of objectivity in their reviews, but at the end of the day, one's opinion will always (and should always, in my opinion) come out on top. In this case, the reviewer thought the controls felt unnatural and were actually worse the controls of the other Resident Evil 4 games. Would you suggest this reviewer completely disregard his own opinion and his own experiences and agree mindlessly with the general consensus, pilias_simber?
Also, lets not forget that this is a port of a two year old game that is currently avaliable on three other platforms and that the games on these other platforms cost half as much as this Wii version.
This is the definitive version of a modern classic and a must-play, even if you've already experienced the unique thrill of Resident Evil 4 on another platform.
The GCN original scored a 9.8 and the PS2 iteration and 9.5 in 2005. The Wii title is the best of the three, but it also arrives two years later, which is primarily why we've dropped the score. The fact is, while an amazing experience, RE4 does not push Wii in the same way it did GCN or PS2.
