Oh yeah absolutely, I think this sequel is over-valued. I'm just not sure by how much. The 360 install base will have more than doubled by then and it's pretty clear this will be Microsof's marquee title for the end of the year. One thing their marketing has shown is that they are willing to throw the money behind their one big game, even to the detriment of all the rest and the mass market they are supposed to be aiming for.
I'm quite sure they are at least attempting to build another Halo level franchise with this and will get behind it accordingly. 7.5m is Halo territory and too much IMO, but, it's within a certain margin of error (admittedly a large one whilst I'm unsure of things) for me to take a position right now.
@deftangel, It would not change anything even if it sold 4.5m copies on 360 alone (which is not even if we believe what CliffyB said because that number is shipment figure without a doubt, I'm pretty sure sold through number is fairly below that) There is no way that the sequel sells 70-80% more than the original one. 7.5m is Halo territory.
@deftangel, I don't know but I always thought 4.5m figure is for PC and 360 versions combined. Epic sent out PRs every time GoW broke a million barrier on 360, but they haven't done it for 4m mark (because it hasn't reached that milestone yet?) Also in GDC 2008 they clearly said that GoW sold 4.5m copies to date which I assume it include all versions.
Fwiw, at this year's GDC, Epic confirmed that GoW shipped 4.5m copies. And thats PC and 360 versions combined. The 360 version alone didn't even reach 4m mark (and also people must notice that we only care about sold through numbers not shipment figures.) How the hell people expect the sequel to sell almost 2x more is beyond me.
"Comic book publisher DC Games and developer Epic Games have announced a partnership to produce a comic book series based on the Gears of War franchise under DC's WildStorm imprint."
@starship, You know it is getting ridiculous when a Xbox 360 game's GLS goes above Halo 3's GLS (which this title's GLS did yesterday or the day before that).
@sagexsdx, Now, if only you would point me to the right 2 or 3 GLS stocks to go long on :). All I am seeing now is stocks that are either at the right price, or massively overpriced (and with me running out of short margin).
