@mrahaju, I also believe that M&S at Winter Olympic will decrease the sales of this game, even though there are significant differences between normal Olympic event/games and Winter Olympic games, such as no ice skating etc.
The major reason of it is : - Balance Board support for Winter Olympic Wii - more developed multiplayer co-op and competitive gameplay.
Text from Olympic Winter games : The Wii version of the game will allow for the use of the Wii Balance Board and will see more developed multiplayer co-op and competitive gameplay.
It looks like the rumours were true: Mario & Sonic will return this year to face off in skiing, ice hockey and lots more wintry events for a game based on the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
According to an "exclusive" for Spanish Nintendo magazine Nintendo Acción hints at Mario and Sonic teaming up again for a winter games version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
6mm LTD sounds good. That means the game would still have to sell another 33% of current LTD to make the GLS forecast. I think 33% at this point is a bit of a stretch with the Olympics over and the game out for over a year in all markets.
Wouldn't say I'm surprised. Brain Training is the iconic DS title for a large segment of the new market Nintendo has created. Full price is £20 vs £30 and it's bundled. A good proportion of DS buyers would buy it even if it wasn't bundled.
That title will sell at full price as long as they keep selling DS' :)
As for M&S a very impressive performance. Only time will tell if my investments since will pay off! Though M&S was one of the first stocks I got into when I started TSE so I never had multi-millions in them.
@deftangel, I am surprised with this statement :“On Nintendo DS it’s the biggest full price title of the year so far, and is second only to Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training for all price points.
On DS, the other games with higher LTD (Diamond and Double Platinum) than Mario & Sonic (Platinum) are New Super Mario Bros (Diamond) and Mario Kart DS, Cooking Mama and Big Brain Academy (Double Platinum). For Brain Training, to be able to defeat M&SATO it is quite surprising. Especially since DS version is released in 2008 (IIRC).
About cashing out at 6.5M / 3.5 M, you are not losing much over DS version (current price only 3.9 M, 11% higher). You lost more on Wii version (current price 8.0M, 23% higher).
As long as you can use that money for other stock that yield better return, it is not really a lost. :)
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games is creeping towards two million sales in the UK – and is still flying out of stores over a year after it was released.
Sega has told MCV that lifetime sales currently stand at nearly 1.3 million on Wii and 460,000 on DS.
From the sounds of the article they expect this to keep on going. Looks like I was wrong to bug out at 6.5m / 3.5m :-)
