Given that all three MGS games have had special releases (when you consider The Twin Snakes for GC being basically a special edition of the first one), I'd say a special edition is assured for MGS4, although I doubt that'll affect sales significantly.
I wasn't trying to say the game is underpriced or giving my opinion. I was just following up on the figures that Gaara had posted to show what the figures would be when you take into account all of MGS2 & 3 sales, with the special releases.
Joe80, although the past games have done quite well, and were extremely fun, you should note that it's on the currently worst selling console. I wouldn't see a large sell until the price drop, and no one knows when that might be.
Follow up to Gaara42's post on MGS sales figures. Here is what vgcharts.org has for MGS2 Substance & MGS3 Subsistence in NA (note 2 things: 1) it only has 1st & 2nd month sales, 2) these games had limited release so its unlikely they sold much after those months) MGS2 Substance: 65,000 MGS3 Subsistence: 143,500
Same thing, but for JA: MGS2 Substance: 160,500 MGS3 Subsistence: 144,500
Adding these figures to MGS2 & MGS3 total sales gives us: MGS2: 5,815,500 MGS3: 4,038,000 (note: MGS4 may or may not get a later special release)
This game is going to be huge, this is the Halo or Zelda for the PS3, some people will buy a PS3 just for this game. Metal Gear Solid(PS) sold 5.51 million copies, Metal Gear Solid 2 sold 5.59 million copies and Metal Gear Solid 3 sold 3.75 million copies( and I am not sure if that includes the revision Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence). This game will sell at least 3.5 million most likely over its lifetime if not more.
If this game turns out to be the last MGS game then it might sell even more and if turns out to be as good as the hype makes it out to be, it could sell even higher.
I appreciate the input and take no offense. It's just how I type though I will try to accomodate you readers. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience. /P Test -A
@Apocalypse I like that you're submitting detailed responses and would enjoy reading them, but it would make it a lot easier if you split it up into a couple paragraphs. No offense or anything.
I am personally NOT a MGS fan anymore. After Metal Gear Solid 2, the franchise disappointed me. The stories get more and more convoluted and predicable, all the while trying to remain somehow liberal while dealing with military issues. But personal issues aside, the game is DEFINITELY a system seller. It is akin to Madden back when it was Sony nearly exclusively. While there is an issue with the PS3's shipping of units and overall price, I believe that by the time this game comes out Sony will initiate a price drop to push a few people over the edge and help sell the game at the same time. Konami works closely with Sony to ship titles while competition (MS) ships theirs. Anyone else remember "March of Konami?" The month that Konami released a title a week for PS2? When larger retail chains get 30+ units of a third party title, it's a system seller. The only problem here is it is NOT truly able to be compared to Halo. Halo made gamers out of people who both didn't play games AND didn't like FPS titles. The issue with MGS is there is no inbetween. With controls that are still archaic it takes an intermediate or advanced gamer to appreciate (or not, in my case.) While the game will sell units, it will not make those who weren't interested in a console buy one. It WILL however make those few PS3 hermits come out and purchase the system for the game they have been waiting for. Every system has these hermits. They're the people who bought Dreamcasts, Nintendo 64's, PS2's, and Xbox's nearly a year or two after launch for that "Killer App." MGS is an app for those who hide in the shadows. Go get em Snake, even though I think Sam Fischer is better. (haha...he wouldn't have a philosophical discussion with the enemies...they're just pork chops to him.) -A
This is the Halo of the ps3. Its going to sell well and most people with ps3's will buy it. Already even with their shipping problems 1,205,216 ps3's have been sold. I believe that 3 million ps3's will be out by the time this hits the market, and this game will remain a strong seller even after the initial launch.
