"A New York Times article claims that Take-Two will be announcing this incredible news for Grand Theft Auto IV sales. 6 million copies sold, 3.6 the first day."
@apujanata, It appears at this location the manager never saw this much interest for a game before. If he was working there at the time of GTA III or SA release, then those launches were not as big.
Info from UK launch: LINK "The pictures after the link are from GameStation and Game in Worthing, on the English south coast ten miles west of Brighton. At least 300 people were queuing outside GameStation for its midnight opening, and the manager was looking a little pensive.
“We asked for a police presence and they haven’t shown up,” he said. “I’ve never seen this much interest for a game here before.”
The store had received more copies than expected, we were told, something in the region of 400 copies."
Given that presales are higher on PS3 in UK and Australia, and presales may be lower than a few 2007 games in NA, with 360 very likely to have more sales. I think this may be reflecting GTA's routes on the PS2 & more significantly to note, that many of those PS2 & GTA owners have yet to upgrade to PS3 and that some of them may have jumped to Wii.
Of course some may have jumped to 360 too, but that should be reflected to a large degree in 360 GTA IV sales, which shows outside of NA so far many of those PS2 & GTA owners have not jumped to 360, whereas in NA some have. I think the most significant potential finding out of all of this is that many of those past GTA owners have likely not upgraded to PS3 yet or are playing Wiis now. Come launch we will be able to gain significant insight into all of this, which is exciting.
