@welshbloke, I don't mean to say that you were spreading rumors, just to clarify. It's been going around as that(a rumor), but I wasn't being specific to you, sorry if it sounds that way.
@welshbloke, Rumor's been busted: "The PS3 console exclusivity is not in doubt. We are shipping the game on the PS3 well before the Xbox 360 version ships," Rein told GamesIndustry.biz "That's the version we are working on right now. We do not have a date for the Xbox 360 version."
Epic Games' boss Mark Rein has stated that there is "no guarantee" Unreal Tournament 3 will make its November release on PC and PS3. To be fair all he has said currently is he will not commit to a November 2007 release date. Using a Duke Nukem forever style of development it will be ready when it is ready tactic to explain why this a 2007 date may be missed.
Gaming in 2007 is all about the online experience. Even our single player sessions are being showcased across the world through leaderboards and achievement points and punters are jumping on the bandwagon, making the notion of human vs. human gameplay a true mainstream concept for the first time in history. With this in mind, Unreal Tournament 3 must be considered one of the pics of the massive Christmas game line-up.
On PlayStation 3, you'll also be able to use the Sixaxis pad's tilt control to manoeuvre the hoverboard. It's actually one of a few control tweaks aimed at the PS3, where you'll also be able to control the Redeemer's all-powerful secondary-fire mode with Sixaxis, directing the round through the sky and into your opponent's face by tilting. Epic is paying a lot of attention to getting the PS3 version's dual-stick controls right too. "One of the big concerns is that controller is very different to the keyboard and mouse, so we want to make sure we have the best experience possible," Morris begins by explaining, "and one of the ways we've done that is to have the Gears of War team working day and night to get these controls up to what we would want."
Also, "we want to make sure the single-player is a fantastic experience. What we've done is create a full-fledged single-player - it's got cut-scenes, storylines - we're calling it divergent storyline because you actually get to decision areas where you say hey, do I want to stick to this corporation or move onto that one, and so when you play through it a second time you're going to have different ways of playing the game." You'll also unlock things as you play through the bot-based single-player game that can be used to customize your character, online as well as off.
Speaking on official Epic forums, Mark Rein revealed that the developer's not yet decided about cross-platform play between PC and PS3.
"We're not 100% sure that users want that feature", Rein said in a post, "but if we get time we'll play around with it and see how it works".
Epic's Lead Producer Jeff Morris took a second to talk with me last week about the decision to allow mods to make their way from PC to PS3.
We talked game modding until Mark Rein showed up with the script of the Gears of War movie and got me all flustered. Morris says that's why Rein isn't allowed to go to press events "It always turns the discussion back to Gears of War." I think he was kidding.
I've always felt that user-created content has long been a sort of holy grail for console shooters. It is mods, I think, that help extend the life of shooters on the PC and it's the last thing, well one of the major last things, you can't do on a console shooter.
Not Anymore.
"This first-person shooter appears to be running quite well on the PlayStation 3, with plenty of graphical detail from top to bottom, all running at a good, firm frame rate. The demo station we saw was running a standard deathmatch against bots, allowing us to get a good feel for the controls.
Sony announced they had signed a deal with Epic Games to bring Unreal Tournament exclusively to the PS3 for 'this year'.
According to Sony, gamers will be able to port PC Unreal mods to the Playstation 3, and play them via a new multiplayer interface.
