Crysis did 86k in the same market as the same time.
Quake Wars has done about 25k sales in the US on the PC vs 200k globally.
Using all of that data we can estimate about 400k sales of the PC version with ~340k of that coming from Europe and 60k coming from the US. Assuming 25% of the total stock shipped remains unsold would mean 900k has been sold so far between the PS3 and PC version, which leaves 500k sales for the PS3 version.
Regarding lifetime sales, considering we've already had 1 Christmas with this title out I would conservatively guesstimate that on top of everything shipped so far, we'll see another 1.2 million shipped to the same markets on top of additional sales for the PS3 in Europe.
@pilias_simber, Shipped numbers for PC games in the US are not as low as you believe - though yes, I believe that PC games these days tend to ship less to retailers than console titles (not necessarily true for all console and PC titles though).
Also, I don't see why Midway wouldn't include digital distribution sales with their shipped number because it would only make them look better through better numbers (and they haven't been having the best times as of late). What Midway's policy is to as to reporting numbers and what those numbers actually mean is something that I do not know and if anyone else does, that would be nice to know.
On another note, pilias_simber, you have raised good points and constructive discussion like what we are having is nice to participate in.
So this discussion will inevitably devolve to (and stay at) a point where you have to go with your gut...and I doubt anyone will change their mind at that point.
We don't have sales numbers for Europe, period. We don't have reliable US PC game sales (outside of monthly futures) either. Heck, we don't even have the US PS3 numbers. So this discussion is stuck because we only have the one total number and no possible way to divide it up.
Maybe if a publisher releases platform specific info (say, lifetime COD4 sales worldwide), then we can revisit this...
We have a fair idea based on sales info we have from other games. IMO gamers who pirate software do not count as gamers as far as this discussion goes, and as far as digital downloads go it's not even relevant to the conversation of how many copies sold of the PS3 vs the PC.
Here is what we do know.
Shipped numbers for PC games are lower than PS3 games, shipped numbers for PC games in the US are extremely low.
We know that 1.2 million copies have been shipped in the US and PC copies in Europe.
so the question is, how many copies of games, namely FPS games, do we usually see shipped between the US and Europe for PC games compared to US PS3?
On top of that you have to question how many more copies you think the PS3 version will ship in Europe when it launches, as well as how many more copies will ship for the rest of the game's life.
You're not really asking about gamers then, you're asking about sales numbers...and we've already established that none exist and this is a pure guessing game as to how that 1.2 million is divided. Since there is no information that can decide this, it cannot be decided.
I meant PC gamers who will shell out $$$ to purchase the game from a retailer and therefore cause the retailer to purchase additional copies of the game, raising the shipped number.
Are there more? You must be joking. There are easily more PC gamers than ~4 million PS3 owners in North America. Heck, there are EASILY more PC gamers than PS3 gamers in the US, but of course no one tracks PC sales to gamers (how could they?). Besides, the number of PC gamers really has no relation to game sales because the PC game market is incredibly fragmented and plagued by piracy.
How many are buying UT3? I have no clue. I just think it's crazy to think that only 4 million PC gamers exist when there are probably almost that many playing World of Warcraft in US/Europe alone, nevermind other games.
Are you trying to argue that there are more PC gamers in the US and Europe combined than the install base of the PS3 in the US? I'd say based on past sales that they are roughly even if not more PS3 owners in the US than PC gamers in the US and Europe.

we have the following sales data:
UT3 did 34k on the PC in November in the US
Crysis did 86k in the same market as the same time.
Quake Wars has done about 25k sales in the US on the PC vs 200k globally.
Using all of that data we can estimate about 400k sales of the PC version with ~340k of that coming from Europe and 60k coming from the US.
