I am sure it will be resolved but this I guess will be dissapointing for those hoping to get creative. Hopefully they can simplify the process on the PS3 for import and creating of mods and maps.
The mod community is very strong for the UT series on the PC anyway and I am sure they will be itching to get to work on PS3 enabled versions. It will be interesting to see how the PS3 community can contribute back to the PC.
Epic Games team member Josh Adams has explained the problem on the official forums: "However, the PS3 mod tools aren't quite ready yet. We are working through some final legal/release issues."
Unreal Tournament 3 isn’t trying to re-invent the wheel or create fire out of thin air. What Epic Games attempted to provide for gamers was a feeling of home where they can settle in and get cozy without having to worry about epic changes in the gameplay. If you have ever played a game in the Unreal series, then you should come to expect the lightning-fast action that dares you, for one second, not to blink one single time for your safety of being protected from a death.
So anyways, 10 years later, and what’s changed? The series is still going strong with Unreal Tournament 3 and all of the great gameplay that UT fans love, but there is a big feature that we had been wanting to bring to the console platform for some time.
@ixaarii, yeah the article sounds like the slow down the aiming to make it easier to aim on a console. The article isn't about UT3 having slower framerates than the PC version (of course, on PC this completely depends on your hardware).
if i understand the interview right the title is kinda misleading: it feels like the usual "problems with ps3 framerate" issue but they seem to talk about aiming/turning speed in gameplay.
Not one to hold back on his forthright opinions, Rein is that rarest of creatures to be found in the world of game development – a high profile studio boss that is not afraid to call a spade a spade. When asked why the console version of UT3 was noticeably slower than the PC version, Rein told us:
"Midway Games Inc. and Epic Games today announced that the PlayStation® 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 is scheduled to ship to retail outlets in North America on December 10th. It is expected to begin arriving in stores in limited quantities the following day, with a U.S. suggested retail price of $59.95."
I'm very curious as to the effects of the traditionally solid modding community behind UT on a console. Should this work out this could provide a surprisingly long lifespan of 'fresh' to the game. Very curious about if this will happen. I believe it could be a big/reference first. However I'm suspecting the good stuff will come say one year+ later... and by then it might have fallen off the radar. Time will tell... still, an exciting first IMHO.
Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing.
and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th but more likely toward the middle of that week.
