The Gamespy article about KB&Mouse for UT3 was linked to from a Kotaku blog where they were making a huge deal about it, so I thought it was brand new news. The confirmation, at this point in development, by Epic I guess would be the brand new news. The great thing about this for PS3 is that we should see games that take advantage of KB&Mouse, including RTS games.
I guess we learn something new everyday, even if it is 1.5 years old news! Looking through the simExchange discussion, Simple had mentioned it on December 6, then csinning had asked for a link for evidence.
Have any other developers announced keyboard and mouse support for their PS3 games?
They actually mentioned Unreal Tournament 2007 as their example. I guess the only question was whether the developer would support it in their console game. I don't know if Epic mentioning you can play UT3 with keyboard and mouse from the get go is news or not.
Anyone know of this before? The Gamespy article Joe80 submitted seems to make it a sidepoint as they just mention it casually towards the end.
Yeah there are tons of PC FPS ports that don't sell that well on console, F.E.A.R. being one of them. But I think that may have been because the game came out for console way later, and the PC buzz was gone.
Doom 3, on the other hand, sold bucketloads on Xbox. I think because so many console gamers wanted to play that because they were familiar with previous id games but didn't have a PC that could play it well so the Xbox was the only option.
Unreal may have a similar following. The biggest complaint for Unreal games on console has been the necessity of the controller rather than kb and mouse. Was this known before because this is the first time I'm hearing about it. Do any other PS3 games support kb and mouse?
Having a keyboard and mouse for an FPS on the PS3 is definitely good news for a game like UT3, but even so, with the sales figures Workwork has pointed out for FEAR, I wouldn't be surprised if most PC gaming FPS players just stuck with the PC version.
A comparable PC shooter that was ported to next-gen consoles is F.E.A.R. That game for 360 will top out around 500k-600k IMO (though the simExchange is forecasting 713K still). With the exception of Call of Duty, PC ports do not sell that well. The one advantage with UT3 for consoles is that these versions come out around the same time as the PC version.
Really? I'm very surprised with all the negative attitude towards PC stocks in the exchange and I do hope that for certifiable hits such as UT3 real world numbers will prove people wrong.
