Can't be WW. Halo 3 is still not release outside of NA yet. Its coming soon but not yet.
And on the pre-oders. Aren't pre-orders (customers) counted on the first day a game sells (release date)? I remember to read something like that. Pre-orderd games are already paid, so purchased.
Also, their assumptions seem a bit iffy. For one thing, they're assuming that all 1.5 million pre-orders were purchased in 8 hours. I doubt that all pre-order customers got up early to go in and not all locations would be open early.
The source isn't that trustworthy for me, but still:
"Initial numbers for sale quantities of the Halo 3 video-game from Microsoft are coming in from a number of sources. The Xbox 360 exclusive title is said to have sold through 1.8 million copies during the first 8 hours of release. This quantity breaks down to about 1.5 million units sold through pre-orders, and additional 300,000 copies sold at impulse (without pre-order).
It is estimated (assuming this trend continues) that a total of 950,000 fresh units will be sold within the first 24 hours, bringing the grand total to 2.45 million units (950,000 + 1,500,000)."
Walmart Canada is lowering the PS3 80GB price to $549 CDN starting this Friday for their Anniversary sale...I'm thinking that when the sale is done it will go to the $599 price to be inline with the US.
Why should it? If they shipped out 10 million would you assume they'll all be sold? Could just be an effort to keep the shelves full or so that they don't have to do any shipping over the next 2 months.
Besides that 4 million number is likely international, not just US.
Interestingly, while new games have been closer in price (about 10% more than the US price because the CDN dolar was at 90 cents US for a while), old games are still priced higher.
For instance, new DS games sold for about $34 while old DS games (2 years old) are still priced at $45.
Not that price will be a huge issue for this game's fans but Walmart Canada has just committed to selling it at price parity with the US (since the CDN $ is worth basically the same as a US dollar now).
....I think you'll see this happen on the hardware side soon too....
I was reading somewhere that M$ was shipping 4 million. If this is true, do you think they will sell out? this will have an affect on the Sept. Future for H3.

The estimate of sales counts all pre-orders, which are likely for worldwide not just the US.
And not all pre-orders are fully paid. Wal Mart's pre-order system involves just a deposit ($10) for the title...not sure how other retailers do it.
