@feelmyring, I agree on this statement of yours, feelmyring. This game would probably do better in sales if the PS3 had more of a mass market appeal that the PS2 had and that the Wii is building. If the PS3 has not built-up a larger installed base that has more of those mass market elements by the time this is launched, then this title will pretty not have that great of sales - we have seen quite a handful of more casual titles launch on hardcore consoles to no avail before. This title's sales are counting on the PS3 reaching a larger mass market audience like the PS2 was able to do - even if the PS3 does not reach as large of a mass market audience like the PS2 (which I believe will easily be the case).
@apujanata, The market that this game appeals to isn't necessarily the same market that will buy a PS3. I don't know a lot of casual gamers that have picked up PS3's.
To be fair, I think everything we've seen demonstrates that they have nailed the mechanics precisely.
This game will redefine the term "Sandbox".
Just watching the uncanned demos (very untypical for a game this far from release) it's pretty clear to me, not only is this game open, but the technology is mature enough for live demos.
I too have a lot of confidence in this game, I don't see how they could possibly screw it up. :)
i dont see how this game which has the ability to appeal to a broad audience is valued less than mgs4 which is for a particular type of gamer. i understand that mgs is a franchise so the brand cred is there. but i think once people see commercials for little big planet, they'll be intrigued.
I disagree that this stock doesn't have higher to go. It may eventually level out around 2.5 to 3 million, but I think there's going to be a lot of hype to drive this price higher in the meantime.
LBP has been hovering in the 200+ DKP range since the summer, so I think once some big news and some demo hits there's some opportunity for long investors to make some money :)
I'm still bullish on this game, I think its going to hit a nerve and do better than 3 million, but that's just my inner-fanboy talking!
I haven't heard anything about pricing at all but if I was in charge I would price this game to sell. I think Sony should make a bold move and price the online version at a relatively low price of $19.99 or less at the PSN store. Sony could also sell a limited edition at retail with all sorts of goodies included for a higher price maybe $39.99. I don't think this will actually happen but who knows?
From what I understand Sony intends this to be a community based game where people meet and play together online. Players are supposed to be able to design or build objects and even entire levels for each other to play with. So it sounds pretty important to have a large number of players and a stable community to play with. It all sounds very ambitious to me and risky too.
Honestly I'm still not 100% sure on how this game actually plays but it seems that building a large initial user base quickly would be crucial to reach the a critical mass and sell the 2.3+ million copies that the exchange is currently predicting.
It's odd but maybe some SimExchange veterans might remember that we have had a short history of overpricing a couple of these innovative and quirky titles with cute characters like Viva Pinata and Elebits. I wish we had long term charts here but you can see the all time highs of these titles and where they actually cashed out at.
I'm not saying that LittleBigPlanet is going to sell like either of those games. Sony seems to be shooting higher and putting a lot of effort in this game and maybe this could be their casual hit. I'm interested in playing this one, but I would still bet that it won't sell 2.3 million unless Sony prices it right.
To me this stock seems over valued. The reason being that, for one, 2.4 million copies is quite a bit. Originally people on here were estimating around 1million copies, maybe a bit more. Well nothing has really changed since then. The game is the same still, no playable demo yet, etc. And while this looks like it will be an awesome game that I will be getting, I doubt that is will sell that much. As for how much it is over valued by, I don't know. It just seems too high and is bearish for me.
