"But what's great is that we can draw a line in the sand. And what the Blu-ray release is going to be about, is really getting a great PlayStation -- if you like, "AAA" -- console experience. It's just gonna compete with any other game you could get on Blu-ray, and that's when we'll know the Blu-ray is ready: when it's fun, when there's enough there that it's a product that you want to play, and you'll get your money's worth. We'll make sure it's a good value."
So the answer to your question has already been answered. It will be on both the PSN and the Blu-ray. Also like you already mentioned that this is for the lifetime of the game. The more I find out about this game, the more it stands out. the question will be what will the pricing be for the blu-ray vs. the PSN store.
I believe you have some valid concerns and at one point in time I would of agreed totally with that statement but with some recent information I have been following I don't see why LBP wouldn't sell 3 million units. If this turns out to be a "myspace" type of service with this game it could be bigger than what we are thinking it will be.
Of course to be devils advocate here. Everyone that gets this game could think it's the worst thing ever and it will never get to a million, but with know the fact of a Blu-ray in store option I think the chances of this selling the 3 million has risen to a lot higher percentage than it would of been if only a PSN download.
I'm a big fan of the idea of LBP and got in on the stock at 54 DKP.. but I wonder if the price is a bit excessive at this point. Even if we're extremely generous and chalk up another 3.5 million in sales for Sony from now to the end of the year worldwide, that still would only put the system around 7.6 million or so units sold.
With the game set to release in early 2008, are we really expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of a 1/3rd attach rate for a niche title from a completely unknown developer? Although I expect the title to be solid, Heavenly Sword's reviews are trickling in and they're not exactly great -- the boring demo has likely caused irrepairable damage to the game's image as well.
I realize the price is supposed to determine lifetime sales, but the pricing on this literally is at best going to be met in 2009 -- and we still don't even know if it will be sold in stores or simply on the PSN where sales figures are complete estimates. I've ridden it out for 200+ points, but at this point it's a clear short to me.
This is great. I leave this website for a few weeks and come back to find that the 10,000 stock I bought of this at 50DKP has skyrocketed in value... not to gloat or anything...
On another note, I think this is a much more realistic valuation. Sure, there's a lot of hype that this needs to live up to, but at the right price point, everyone will want to try it out (if they own a PS3 that is - I don't see many people actually buying one for this game alone).
The recent rise of this stock is good to see, though I think it should top out at around 200DKP, as from current information; from the install-base of the PS3 to the demographics this game is targeting to sales of online video games on consoles, seems to point to this game doing well, but I'm not sure at the moment it will be able to sell above 2 million.
The one reason why it might be able to sell more than 2 million is if, as I made in a previous comment, the game is able to remain in one of the front spots in the PSN store for a long time, thus increasing its life far beyond what a retail-only game would be able to do.
I'm not sure what you mean by "messing"... but I try to always be on here when a new day starts. So that you can get a good jump and buy, buy, buy on a really hot stock, like Guitar Hero 3 (wii) at this very moment. (Go grab some today ASAP folks)... ... or sell a bunch of stock while the price is still high. That's what I did today and I think thats what you noticed. I dumped somewhere around 1.2mil before it dropped, which seems to happen to a stock the day after a really large rise out of nowhere. This sell off took away a good chunk (30%) of my gains also. But my large buy in on GH3 had already more than made up for it.
