Sony executives will be happy to hear that Take-Two CEO Benjamin Feder predicts that GTA IV's arrival will have a welcome impact on PS3 sales. He predicts "the release of Grand Theft Auto IV is going to to have a material beneficial impact on sales" on the console.
Thanks Charron, the title of the story made me think back to the Simpson's episode where Homer got a boot put on his car for unpaid parking tickets...I was wondering how that would work in a game! :)
Grand Theft Auto IV will bring real-time car boot interaction physics to the world of GTA, according to a pop-up command glimpsed during a demo of the astoundingly next-generation game.................
I totally misquoted you. You said many, not most. For that I apologize.
Heh, you'll have to forgive me if I'm being overly polite. I just want to figure things out in a discrete fashion. I am inquisitive by nature so I really have to restrain myself from entering each thread and blurting out "Well what about this...and what about this...Yeah but I don't get that..." etc.
Anyway, thanks for being understanding and patient with me. Sorry for making you explain yourself more than once.
Also, I promise that I'll stop derailing conversations with stupid side questions.
RabiesBaby, I donīt think I ever said that "most" PS3 owners have a 360. If I ever did, I certainly meant to say "many." I feel confident that the percentage of PS3 owners that also have a 360 is much less than 50 (even in the U.S., where the percentage is probably highest), but this is purely speculation.
And while a lot of what I post is not cold hard fact, itīs impossible to make a prediction any other way. Additionally, I wouldnīt say my predictions come from the heart.
Personally Iīd like it if every single quality game (and every system) sold far beyond expectations; including GTA4 - Iīm looking forward to it a lot (in fact Iīll definitely get the PS3 version if itīs superior). But as far as my predictions are concerned, I make them mainly based on sales data, past and current trends, and history; my personal preferences play a very small role.
Thatīs why Iīm predicting that GTA4 will sell only 4.8M on PS3. It will be released on 360 on the same day, and based on the present and past, it seems like PS3 will only sell about 27M worldwide (slightly better than Xbox and GameCube). Iīll post in the PS3 discussion later tonight to explain this in detail.
I hope everythingīs clear now. From now on Iīll be sure to re-read my posts carefully so that everything is clearer. Youīre definitely the politest poster Iīve seen, RabiesBaby.
So Bungalow_Bob, outside of the actual sales data you've cited the rest of the information in your posts is purely your own personal feelings. Am I correct? Please don't take this as a slam on you. That is not my intention. I just want to see where you're coming from.
I've seen you post in other sections that "most" PS3 owners also own a 360. At the time I was curious where that data came from. But now I think it's something you came up with either based on what you've seen in your limited experience (Limited only in what one human being can see in the 6 months PS3 has been out) or through an informal study you've preformed. Again, I agree with a lot you have to say, but my feeling is that sometimes you speak from the heart and not pure cold hard facts.
I certainly hope that I am not overreacting. If I am way off please show me where I am wrong.
RabiesBaby, the source of the U.S. data is NPD, and the Japanese data is Media Create (both covering the past 7 or so years).
As for other countries, I only have the same limited data that is mostly available on this site (which includes some Canadian, U.K. and German hardware sales, and lots of software charts for different countries, of which chart-track is the most important).
It is my educated guess that Sony will release a new console in about 4 years priced at about $300 (sorry for not being more clear).
As for abandoning the "10 year plan," (by releasing PS4 in 4 years) Iīll explain my reasoning in detail in a post later tonight in the PS3 discussion.
I think $300 is by far the most likely price for PS4. Itīs what the market has shown itīs willing to pay for new hardware (in large quantities), and PS4 will not include a very expensive, brand new disc drive technology like PS3. Expensive, more powerful hardware would also lead to game budgets drastically increasing AGAIN, which Sony realizes and will try to minimize.
As for an official PS4 announcement, donīt expect to hear Sony talk about it for another 3 years. If they were to publicly announce now that PS4 is coming in 4 years, they would only harm PS3 sales. Their "10 year plan" is an important and effective part of their PS3 marketing, and it will continue for as long as it is beneficial to Sony.
Finally - GTA4. Many of the GTA fans who buy PS3 over the next 6 to 20 months will already have a 360 along with the 360 version of GTA4. This will cause sales of the PS3 version to drop off faster than GTA sales dropped off last gen.
"In fact, the PS3 has started off so badly worldwide, and is continueing to drop in sales so quickly in every single territory that Sony will release the PS4 (which will have a completely different business strategy which will include a $300 pricetag) as soon as possible - probably in about 4 years."
I am not questioning your arguement, I in fact agree with most of the figures you posted. I would just like to know the source of this information. "which will have a completely different business strategy which will include a $300 pricetag" this is the comment that I'm most curious about, and I'd like to read up on Sony's future plans. Do you have a link or something I could check out? Thanks.
