If the US prediction is 500,000 units off (as you suggest in your last line), that's still only about 17% off. Also, none of those numbers are "official", in the sense that later NPD numbers could change either way.
Without knowing the worldwide or per console distribution, it's impossible to guess how close it is, but it's nice to see that it should at least be fairly close.
Really? I would guess that is a little bit too high. After all that game is also sold in Europe, and sold very very well, not just in the uk. If the Uk had 1 Million, the rest of Europe had at least another one. Normaly Uk is about 30-40% of Europe. So I would guess 2.5 Million for Europe is a good guess, which leaves 3.5 Million to Americas or 3-3.2 Million for the US.
We know that UK sales are near 1 million, the combined sales for US have been projected to around 4 million which leaves 1 million or more for rest of the world. I wonder how previous GTA sold in rest of the world?
Take 2 said today that GTA IV has surpassed all-time entertainment records for day one and week one sales by dollar value. Released on Tuesday, April 29th, Grand Theft Auto IV, the critically acclaimed video game, has sold through to consumers approximately 6 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $500 million in the first week. Grand Theft Auto IV sold approximately 3.6 million units on its opening day with a retail value of approximately $310 million globally.
@kspraydad, I think this stock will keep on moving upward, until the release of NPD April data. Once it arrived, then the price will be adjusted, either upward or downward. I personally believe it is going to be downward, since hoping for high attachment rate is a little bit too optimistic.
Regarding futures: Are we really expecting 3 million sold in May + 1 week? Futures are just the US correct?
The US has a PS3 install base of approx 5 million consoles (by the end of May)...
Seems like a rather high attach rate... especially given the news about the problems with the PS3 version (of which I am a victim)...anyone I know that has a PS3 has been instructed (by myself) to hold off purchasing this game until the issues are fixed...this may be well beyond May.
Sounds a bit dodgy to me. Both consoles have problems reported, yet here we have a big headline attacking the only the PS3. Smells like a dirty rat...spouting propaganda!
He should change the headline IMO, as a lot of people only read / scan headlines.
