GTA IV to feature 16 person multiplayer

Kotaku - October 16, 2007

Submitted by Animate (241) at 12:59PM PST on October 16, 2007

"the company said at a Sony event that they are aiming for 16-person multiplayer that's richer than simple deathmatch gameplay (here's hoping for a hot coffee mode at Starbucks). We assume that this mode will apply to both 360 and PS3 versions of the game. Another interesting tidbit? The entire world may be unlocked from the start." (I linked to Kotaku because original article is about many things and info is hidden.)

Grand Theft Auto IV Update

IGN.com - January 23, 2008

Submitted by Gaara42 (8) at 5:36PM PST on January 31, 2008

Gone were any framerate inconsistencies, and Rockstar was no longer hiding elements of the game from us, like the use of Niko's cell phone or dialog bits that needed to be muted from our delicate ears. Indeed, the extra time taken for development was very well spent, and GTA IV looks to be just about done... Grand Theft Auto IV is looking fantastic at this point. The framerate has been solidified (on the 360 at least - PS3 demos are coming soon) and the gameplay looks to be wholly intact.

GTA IV Release Date and Price Announced

gameplayer - December 20, 2007

It’s the biggest game of the year, we all know it, and it could even be the biggest game of all time if what we have seen is anything to go by. We already knew that the game was coming out sometime between Feb and April 2008 and we had banked on Easter being the more likely target date in that period. You know, given the holidays and all. But perhaps we were wrong.

Huge Interview w/ Producer on Making GTA IV

TimesonlineUK - April 27, 2008

Submitted by Animate (241) at 9:22PM PST on April 27, 2008

Very long interview with information you won't see anywhere else. Excerpts: “He hasn't a clue how much GTA IV has cost to make but hazards a guess at $100 Million. About 1,000 people have had a hand in developing it. The perfectionism Houser and Benzies demand of their teams is astonishing." "time-lapse cameras were set on rooftops in NY to capture the correct intensity of the rain. Over 100,000 photographs were taken on location."

Why is this the first true sequel to GTA III? How do you make a multiplayer component that still feels as free and open as the single-player of GTA? And what's Rockstar's take on downloadable content? IGN spoke with VP of Creative, Dan Houser and Rockstar North Art Director Aaron Garbut to get the answers.

GTA IV Will Take 100 Hours to Beat

vgamer.com - February 28, 2008

""If you're not in a rush and you answer the phone when it rings it'll take about 100 hours to complete", we were told. "It's harder to distinguish between main and side missions - there are loads of both. But there are more main missions than side missions. It's not as clear cut as it used to be because of the phone."

1UP Trailer Editors Impressions "Serious questions about actual game mechanics remain (hopefully it won't be the same old missions and spotty gun targeting), but it's certainly an exciting start."
