This isn't shocking, but now it's official -- Insomniac Games has revealed that it's currently developing Resistance 3. Announced at Sony's gamescom press conference today, the game was teased with a live-action trailer to get players hyped for the game's 2011 release. The game is in development at Insomniac's Burbank, California studio; earlier today, it was revealed that the North Carolina studio is hard at work on a new, cooperatively multiplayer Ratchet and Clank title.

Xbox Live is a good enough reason to own an Xbox 360, but exclusive games definitely don't hurt - and Microsoft's got quite a few lined up for next year. Nintendo's handheld, Activision's shooter reign supreme on last month's hardware, software rankings--latter sells 8.4 million; US sales up 8 percent for best November on record. Industry research firm the NPD Group has reported $2.95 billion in US game sales for the month of November, a 9 percent increase in overall sales of non-PC hardware, software, and accessories. Including PC games, the total was $2.99 billion, an 8 percent uptick over the same period the year prior.

Wedbush's Michael Pachter reports that sales of Sony's console were below expectations; Microsoft's motion-sensing camera outselling PlayStation Move 5-to-1. Following NPD's report of US November sales yesterday, both Nintendo and Microsoft announced sales figures for their respective game machines. The DS was the best-selling platform for the month with 1.5 million units, followed by the Xbox 360 with 1.37 million units, and the Wii with 1.2 million units.

Sony announces sell-in statistics for Polyphony Digital's racing sim; series sales vault to 61.41 million. The bumpy road to release for Gran Turismo 5 came to a head November 24, when Polyphony Digital's hotly hyped racing simulator finally made its way to the PlayStation 3 behind rave reviews. Now, two weeks later, Sony has announced how well the title has fared commercially.

November NPD: Best month ever for retail, Xbox

November is traditionally a big, big month for games, thanks to the impending holidays and the temporary financial insanity bestowed upon Americans by the Black Friday Effect. This November may have been the biggest. The NPD reports that last month was the "best November on record in terms of new physical retail sales," ahead of November 2008 by around $30 million. Call of Duty: Black Ops had the biggest first month of any game ever, with 8.4 million copies.
