Joystiq - January 3, 2011

Submitted by TheSmilkman (53) at 6:25AM PST on January 4, 2012

All things considered, 2011 was a pretty solid year for the 3DS. Despite an incredibly slow adoption rate at launch and the resultant corporate turmoil, buyers on the fence were eventually persuaded by a massive price drop and 3D remakes of yesteryear's classics. By the end of 2011, Nintendo had sold "more than 4 million" of its stereoscopic wunderkind to US consumers, as well as 1 million units each of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.

1. "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword": This is the "Zelda" that fans have been waiting for since "Ocarina of Time." It manages to tell a more mature story while maintaining the sense of whimsy and wonder that's always been a hallmark of the series. But what matters most is the level design, which is top-notch, and the new gameplay elements that leverage the Wii's motion controls. It's an experience like no other.
