Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft, striving to make its Xbox video-game unit profitable, said "Halo 3" brought in $300 million in revenue over its first week, becoming the fastest- selling video game
Interesting. I wonder if bungie will be able to continue their success with other games or if they will fall back into relative obscurity. They're a quality company, but they're pigeon-holed as "those Halo guys" right now.
@kman571, they were just talking about this on CNBC actually. If we assume the average game was sold for $65 (averaging in Legendary and Collector's edition), that'd be 4.61 million copies worldwide.
Microsoft sent a PR today summarizing their last week in the videogame business: $300 million of raw product sales and more than double the number of Xbox 360s sold compared to the week before. Unsurprisingly, this officially makes it the fastest-selling game ever, not to mention one of the most successful entertainment properties in the world. Not bad for 7 days work.
I think any 360 game topping the Japanese charts whatever the circumcstances is good news for 360. The Halo 3 effect can be seen even in Japan, they have even increased sales from not a lot to a bit more than not a lot but an increase all the same.
I confess I never expect Halo 3 to chart but a slow week and a strong product has done the job. This may even spark a bit more interest. Obviously this is not turning the system round.
The first week release of a 360 game barely topped two games in their 3rd week. While good news for Microsoft's bottom line, it's hardly a drastic turn around...it's an anomaly.
After years of Japan shunning American games, a drastic turn around and good news for Microsoft after Halo 3 tops the game sales chart for the week of 9/24 to 9/30, according to the Japanese software chart Simple 2000.
