Resident Evil 5 became the fastest selling game in the franchise. X360 claims 55% of sales while PS3 accounts for 45%. It represents 27.1% of all revenue from console games this week. Sales of RE 5 are slightly more than the combined sales of all the remaining All Formats Top 10 titles. RE5 on PS3 has outsold RE4's PS2 launch week by 3.22 to 1. Last week's No1 'Empire: Total War' drops to No8 (sales down 70%). All other Top 10 titles lose sales.

EEDAR predicts Feb NPD sales decline, Wii sales increase

Joystiq - March 16, 2008

Submitted by FoxHoundADAM (340) at 2:03PM PST on March 16, 2009

The industry analysts at Electronic Entertainment Design and Research recently cast their assortment of oracle bones over some spreadsheets in an attempt to foretell NPD sales figures for the month of February. They foresee a year-on-year decline for Spring 2009 sales as a whole. They predict year-on-year February sales for the PSP, DS and PS3 to fall over 10 percent. However, the firm does predict an 18 percent increase for the 360, and a 68 percent jump for the Wii.

EA predicts longer console cycle, more price cuts

Joystiq - March 13, 2009

Submitted by oznerol (1) at 6:56AM PST on March 13, 2009

According to EA CFO Eric Brown, this console generation still has many years ahead of it and will be longer than console cycles of the past. Elements found in this generation, such as digital distribution channels, still have high potential for growth, Brown said at a Wedbush Morgan Securities conference. We've also ostensibly hit a tech ceiling with this gen, as games consoles are capable of full HD resolution at 60fps, which means there's little need to upgrade to new hardware.

Online Gaming Jumps in 2009

kotaku - March 10, 2009

Submitted by felipedmoreira (378) at 12:49PM PST on March 10, 2009

Although PC online gaming has dipped slightly, a recent survey by the NPD Group shows that online gaming as a whole has increased from 19 to 25 percent this year. The console leader for online gaming is, not surprisingly, the Xbox 360 which dominates the survey with 50 percent. I was more than a little surprised to see that the survey shows that Nintendo's Wii, and not the Playstation 3, is in second place with an amazing 29 percent. The PS3 rounds out the group in third place.

Online retailer Amazon has entered the pre-owned videogames market, with the beta launch of a new service. Users send Amazon their games, and in return are issued a gift card for a pre-arranged amount. The retailer already allows users to sell their own games through the site, but this is the first time Amazon has taken a more active role.
