Delistings for January 2009
The following stocks are candidates for delisting. These stocks were chosen for delisting due to inactivity in the stock and/or lack of discussion for an extended period of time. Delisting stocks is necessary to unlock DKP for trading and concentrate DKP in the stocks people are trading.
All shares will cash out at the last traded price. This price is determined as the fair value as the market has not viewed the price as undervalued or overvalued for some time. These stocks will no longer appear when browsing the genres and platforms pages. You will still be able to view the stocks' pages by searching for the games.
If you feel any of the following should not be delisted due to an upcoming event (such as the game has not yet been released in all regions), please make a case and post in this forum by 11AM on Tuesday, January 13. A stock price that you are not happy with is not grounds for continued listing.

Could you introduce or even trial a system so that after 3 months from release whatever the given price is, for say 24-48hours those who have stock either short or long can reverse their position up to a 0 balance at the set price?
Then any who still think it should go up or down can continue to trade for say another month and the game will then be delisted. Unless of course there is still high activity in the stock then you could extend this deadline, and maybe have another get out stage if the stock is going to be kept for a long time as in WoW.

We used to have larger numbers of GLS stocks, but this dilutes the trading activity, which has severe consequences in the workability of a market.
If nobody is trading stock A, this makes it less likely any one else will trade stock A as they won't expect anyone to trade the stock after them. This is an illiquidity problem. If they do trade stock A, they will likely have their capital locked up in something that will not move, because other players are looking at stocks B, C, or D.
Fewer stocks also force more overlap in trading, concentrating traders to focus on those stocks that are available. The problem we face is basically that the more tradable stocks there are listed, the less and less likely people will be trading the same stocks. This results in less accurate forecasts and a less entertaining trading experience for the player as their stocks don't have any trades on a day to day basis.
However, we also want to list a breadth of stocks so that the games people want to trade are available. This has always been a delicate balance for us to ensure we maintain the depth of trading in each stock with a breadth of stocks that forecast what interest the industry and players.[ Admin ]bids

Why not have pool of 200 GLS stock ? or even 250 GLS stock ? I believe that delisting too early (like 2 months after release) could raise another issue, those of incorrect prices, because those who are right doesn't have enough margin to bring the price to the right price. We will be delisting GLS stocks and listing new GLS stocks aggressively in the near future. I suspect one of the reasons activity has decreased (such as trading volume and content submissions) is that the vast majority of the games currently listed for trading have been released for a while.
We currently have 169 GLS stocks trading, with the majority being old games. I would like to tighten the trading pool to just 150 GLS stocks, and shift the proportion towards unreleased games. This will concentrate the trading activity as well as support interest in the stocks. Historically, it appears traders ignore most stocks for games that have been released for over 2 months.[ Admin ]bids

Yes, in the future, we will be aiming to delist stocks on a more regular basis. This delisting should catch us up a bit, since we haven't done any delistings for a few months. We are revamping the IPO process and plan to be IPOing GLS stocks on a more regular basis as well, so we will have to keep a tight balance of GLS stocks that are available for trading.[ Admin ]bids

IIRC, there was a suggestion for a more staggered delisting. Instead of 35 stocks at-once every few months (last delisting is August 2008, 4.5 months ago), isn't it better to do delisting every month / 2 month, with 5 - 10 stocks each delisting ?
Anyone else have the same thought (agree) ?
Looking at my portfolio, it seems that this delisting will free up 3.8 Million DKP for me. Time to hunt for stocks to invest those new cash :D.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]

I think you're touching on a similar issue I mentioned a little while ago by which if you are short on a stock, it's very hard to get the money out without affecting the price.
This affects the higher networth players (i.e. the "better" traders because they will short more often than not and have a lot of capital invested.
More regular delisting probably helps with that but as the collective net wealth of active players increases it might be worth looking at the automated market maker limits (currently 75K) to make it easier to shift money around.
Of course it's a delicate balance as the market needs to be playable still by newer players and I'm far from an expert.
