MGS 4 was a big hit. Konami isn't ready to walk away from the franchise anytime soon. A Konami job listing shows how eager the company is.
The job listing is for an experience programmer and mentions mostly the obvious: Staff wanted for home console games and cell phone games. But one line sticks out — Staff wanted for a new development in the Metal Gear series.
Recently Konami's Brandon Laurino posted in the comments on PlayStation.Blog:
On the subject of MGS4/MGO trophies and Konami ID - we hear you. We have been circulating these issues internally, and we will report back as soon as we are able.
According to Konami's earnings report for the period April-September 2008, PlayStation 3 posterchild Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has gone and sold itself 4.33 million times worldwide. That's 4.33 million gunmetal grey 'taches, 4.33 million Solid Eyes and 4.33 million flapping bandanas. Strewth.
Today, Arai’s quote – and all mentions of Metal Gear Solid 4 – have been struck from the report.
Kabushiki now quotes a different Konami representative and mentions entirely different game series (Winning Eleven 2009 and Castlevania) to back up their thesis that companies are leaning towards multiplatform release.
According to a Tokyo Game Show report from Japanese investment research firm Morningstar, Metal Gear Solid 4 may find its way to the Xbox 360 after all. Morningstar published a general article covering multiplatform trends that features a quote from a Konami public relations representative that should fuel rumors for months to come. The rep is quoted as saying, regarding MGS4, "We're actively looking into a release for the Xbox 360."
