Kojima continues to announce new features, such as being able to play the game in First Person Mode, suggesting that there isn’t anything Snake can’t do. Furthermore, with over 70 weapons, MGS4 is going to be one of the most feature full games to come out in 2008.
My comments were mainly in reply to the theory that a late port to Xbox 360 would affect sales of the initial PS3 version.
I have no solid opinion of sales levels for the PS3 version itself. It depends on how great this new MGS4 game is, if it reinvigorates the franchise then it may sell aswell as is currently predicted on here. I know Konami have specifically tweaked the game to appeal more to a western audience (who also are the main buyers of the games).
well i might argue that the reason why it doesnt sell well on pc is because it really is a game more well suited for consoles.
the reason why it didnt sell well on xbox is because relative to ps2s, no one had xboxes.
fast forward to today and there are many more 360s in american consumer hands than ps3s.
also i definitely disagree with your comments that the ps3 is gaining ground on the 360. if you look at monthly sales, there is no reason to believe that ps3 is gaining ground on 360. at the very most, you could say it's keeping up.
but to note is that i speak of american numbers. if konami is looking at it only from a japanese perspective, then there's more merit to konami not bringing it to 360.
i think an important thing to add to this conversation is how well MGS sells in america. if it sells well in america, then 360 sales numbers are a factor. if not, then i dont see why konami would bring it to the 360.
As per my previous comments, I think it makes less business sense to put this out on 360 based on the market. Konami may agree for the same reasons, and are probably more than anything regretting the position the Sony exclusivity agreement puts them in (read unable to maximize their profits).
However, PS3 is gaining ground on the 360 as expected. By Xmas next year you will see the 360 and PS3 neck in neck, but since the 360 doesn't do well in Japan, and previous Xbox/PC sales records for the franchise, they just may forget about the whole idea and pray for a successful run on PS3 only.
You are right, Metal Gear has never done well on PC or 360. There is very little reason to believe an after-thought port, would endear many to Metal Gear.
Like MGS2 it will be old news and probably surpassed by the time it comes out on 360, and will likely compete for shelf space with Halo 4.
So basically MGS4 doesn't stand a chance on the 360 platform. I think it would be a bad idea to port all of that proprietary code Konami is famous for to DirectX to sell to all of 100,000 japanese Xbox owners and 20 million peeps in the US.
Here's what I don't understand, this is still too high....
*We're currently predicting MGS4 to outsell previous metal gears on PS2.
*There is a downward trend in sales since MGS2, even though MGS3 was a great game in comparison. This includes special editions...see for yourself.
*We're predicting PS3 sales to be in the 50-60 million range instead of 100 million range essentially doubling Metal Gear Solid's attach rate (which has never been close to the 1 in 9 or 10 we are predicting for MGS4)
*Although this will not be on 360 ever (or not for 12-14 months, it will have 0 impact on PS3 sales of MGS4 after a full year cycle). There are very few "softcore" Metal Gear players willing to wait 12-14 months.
*PS3 is facing more competition than ever, why do expect them to sell less PS3s but more Metal Gears than ever before? Those who have bought 360 and WOULD wait for MGS4 to be ported are so few and far between, who exactly is making up this sales growth...the casual Wii Sports gamer? I think not.
So why is this hovering around 500 DKP, should be more like 400.
While traversing the CES 2008 show floor, we came across a demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PlayStation 3. We're told it's the same demo as the hands-on kiosks at the Tokyo Game Show and E for All events last fall, but running on a separate screen above the demo was a running list of PS3 facts. Among these random facts was additional confirmation that Sony considers MGS4 a PS3 exclusive release.
When MGS2 was ported to Xbox a long time after the original PS2 release, it did not sell well. How many Xbox 360 owners seriously want to play this series of games is a key factor wether PS3 sales of it will be affected if this rumour is true, DMC4 sales may provide an indicator of how typical Xbox 360 owners view key traditionally PlayStation console franchises
Although the credibility of this story is questionable, this is an indicator that there is still risk that this title will not be an exclusive, which will cannibalize the sales of the PS3 version. I believe the stock should be trading at a significant haircut from the current price of 480 DKP.

70 Weapon ? How many weapon was available in MGS 3 ?
