I don't know, but honestly I think the market is pricing this game based on hype. Especially considering this is going to be one of the first really big PS3 titles, I expect things to drop down to a more reasonable level after we get sales data, I seem to recall Halo at insane numbers as well before release (18 million IIRC). Same thing here, people are just excited.
@kspraydad, I've been a fan since MG1 on NES. I've beaten MGS1&2, & own 3 but haven't played through it yet. I'll probably still buy the 3 pack because I sold MGS1 a while back. Which one did you play?
This bonus DVD will also help garner sales from people who didn't own previous MGS games, since it sums up the story.
@kspraydad, Thanks kspraydad. One of the more enjoyable discussions I've had recently, a little heated yet respectful. Informatable in general, and informed myself in the process!
I'm excited about this Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD bonus, which is yet another thing that will help sales. I don't have PS3 but I may get now preorder this game just to get that bonus!
I was saying 2.5 million of the bundle alone if EA/Activision estimates of US BASED SALES for the PS3 in 2008 hold true. They both estimate around 5 million consoles for the US and if the ratio remains 50/50 that would be 2.5 million bundles.
If there is a price drop on PS3 this year I would expect it to happen in tandem and the relative price difference to remain.
I'm long on this expecting approx 5 million lifetime sales due to this bundle announcement. (And crossing my fingers I'm right!)
Although announced yesterday at the Destination PlayStation event, Sony America was quick to distance itself from the June 12 release date, saying instead "late Q2 2008." Konami has now confirmed via press release that Metal Gear Solid 4 is indeed coming out June 12, 2008.
Konami also reaffirmed the pre-order bonus: reserve your copy of MGS4 starting April 2008 and get Metal Gear Saga 2.0, a DVD to catch you up to speed on the series, as well as a beta code for Metal Gear Online.
