Record results for GAME

High Street retailer GAME has reported record sales growth of 86 per cent for the year ended January 31 2008, with like-for-like sales up 41.2 per cent. Profits before tax were GBP 75.5 million, a massive increase of 156 per cent on the previous year. The retailer opened 116 new stores in overseas territories and saw international profits more than double to GBP 13.2 million.

‘Wii Fit’ flexes its muscles at the top of the All Formats chart this week, giving Nintendo a very healthy complexion thanks to the 6th fastest selling UK debut ever (only bettered by GTA, Halo and Gran Turismo titles). The fitness game was launched on Friday, bundled with a balance board accessory at a price of £69.99 and was bought by roughly 1 in 10 Wii console owners over its first 2 days of release.

Warner Bros partners with SCi

SCi and Warner Bros have announced that the two companies have entered into a strategic partnership. Warner Bros Home Entertainment will subscribe for up to GBP 15 million (USD 30 million) new shares in the company and will handle distribution of SCi titles in the US, Canada and Mexico. (SCi is the Studio behind titles like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Hitman)

Analyst Colin Sebastian Ups Hardware Sales Forecasts

n a Monday investor note, Colin Sebastian with Lazard Capital Markets raised 2008 US Wii sales estimates from 6.5 million to 8.5 million units, and PS3 sales from 4.5 million to 4.7 million. He also boosted 2008 DS estimates from 5.9 million to 6.4 million and PS2 from 2.5 million to 3 million. He reiterated his Xbox 360 sales forecast of 4.8 million during the year and PSP sales of 3.8 million.
